July 23, 2013, Kimberly, ID – A scientist studying how manure impacts both soil and crop productivity over many years has been somewhat surprised by how much impact she is seeing in the first year.
Farmers often apply manure to fields for the nutrient or fertilizer value, but manure can also increase soil organic matter. Organic matter is what gives midwestern farm fields that dark brown color and earthy smell. Southern Idaho soils are characterized by low organic matter. READ MORE
