July 10, 2009, Jefferson County, NY – Area farmers will have a chance to learn about the final version of the new state permits for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations — CAFOs — in Jefferson County.

A new state permitting rule went into effect July 1 for all CAFOs, including dairy farms with more than 200 mature cows. Other livestock farms may also be considered CAFOs, such as beef cattle farms with 300 or more cattle.
