Winter manure-spreading rules could change in WI

October 9, 2015, Montello, WI — Some farms might have to alter their winter manure spreading practices if revisions to the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s 590 standards are put in place, possibly sometime within the next year.

Sara Walling, chief of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection’s Nutrient Management and Water Quality Section, reported to the DATCP board Sept. 23 on changes to 590 standards at the national level and how those changes might impact Wisconsin’s nutrient management programs.
