The Sittler windrow turner model 509 is said to be ideal for large farm, municipal and industrial composting.

It is reliable, efficient, economical, low-maintenance, and long-lasting, according to the company. The 509 features extra-hardened, replaceable steel blades that are uniquely positioned on the drum to allow for complete blending right to the base of the windrow. Material from the outside is brought inward and from the bottom to the top forming a peak position, allowing the windrow to have a chimney effect for CO2/oxygen flow.

An optional self-pushing feature is now available for the 509 and the 512 compost turners. This feature eliminates the need for a tractor with a creeper gear.

On the 509, turner wheels are hydraulically driven with the power coming from the tractor. To begin composting, a pin is inserted on both sides to engage drive on left and right wheels. The machine will move forward while the tractor transmission remains in neutral. The machine is operated by hand controls situated immediately behind the tractor operator at a convenient height. The turner folds conveniently for shipping.
