7:45 - 8:30am: Tour registration and bus boarding

8:30am to 4:00pm: Farm Tours
($ pre-registration required, transportation & lunch included)

Tour #1 - Mooving Manure on Dairies
This tour will visit a dairy that shows how manure separation, aeration and irrigation are working together for a local farm family. Learn about the design, implementation, management and experiences of mooving manure.

Tour #2 - Beefing Up the System
This tour will visit a local farm that raises beef cattle and manages manure in open lots, bedded pack barns and deep pit systems. The tour will also showcase the South Dakota State University Cow-Calf Education and Research Facility, which showcases research and manure management for both pasture and confinement systems.

Tour #3 - A Look Inside Swine Systems
This tour will take participants inside swine barns to see how manure storages are designed and managed, and the pig environment. The tour includes a swine barn under construction. At the South Dakota State University Swine Education and Research Facility, a viewing hallway allows tour participants to see inside the gestation barn and view stall and pen gestation and farrowing in action.

NOON: Manure Expo Grounds and Tradeshow Opens

12:30 to 1:00pm: Travel to Manure Agitation Site

1:00pm to 4:00pm: Agitation Demo

Agitation Demo is included with the tours. 75 additional spaces will be open to Expo attendees, first come, first serve (*must be 18 years or older). Buses will depart promptly at Noon and 12:15pm, returning to the Expo grounds by 4:00pm.

4:00 to 6:00pm: Industry Presentations

Vermeer Session
Topic: Manure composting: Learn from those that know

Description: Hear firsthand from a panel of operators who have been composting manure for years. They will share their insights into how they came to manage manure with composting and the impact it has had on their operation. This session is intended to be interactive with time allowed for questions from the audience.

Corteva Agriscience Session
Topic: How to Maximize Your Manure with Nitrogen Maximizers


Recent research developed by Iowa State University shows that later application timing of manure combined with the use of a nitrogen stabilizer, Instinct® nitrogen stabilizer, can have a significant impact on yield. In this fact-filled presentation, Kenny Johnson, CCA, Corteva Agriscience™, will address the specific benefits of livestock manure on soil health, research findings that impact the application timing of manure, and how adding a nitrogen stabilizer to fall or spring applied manure can increase yield and positively impact water quality.

OXBO Session
Topic: How to Turn Manure, Biosolids, Compost, Lime and other products into fertilizer

Steve Pesik from Oxbo International and Dorus Van Esch from Ploeger Machines bv will discuss how by using the proper applicator with the right technical features waste materials can be turned into a valuable commodity. We will cover both liquid and dry products. Choosing the right applicator based on the product being spread. Documentation, what is required and how do we accomplish it, including control features, computer control, weighing system, steering and accuracy. We will also discuss technical product details of the various spreader products, and how machines are being used in Europe.. The Oxbo and Ploeger team has over 30 years of nutrient management experience in both North America and Europe.
