Apply now: Methane Reduction Challenge

Farmers, researchers, business owners and anyone else involved in Canadian agriculture in some capacity are invited to apply to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC)’s Methane Reduction Challenge. AAFC is looking to invest in and advance what it calls “innovative, scalable and economically viable practices, processes and technologies” that contribute to the net reduction of methane emissions from the cattle sector, specifically cow-calf operations, feedlots and dairies.

Applications will be evaluated not only on their potential to reduce net enteric methane emissions, but also are ready and able to scale up, have strong potential for adoption, can reduce upfront costs and are innovative, with “strong potential for meaningful change.”

While AAFC has provided a non-exhaustive list of potential innovation areas, including feed additives, improvements and related technologies; pasture and grazing management practices; and improving production and feed efficiency by leveraging improved cattle management, AAFC emphasizes that the challenge is open to all Canadians looking to advance new solutions to reduce enteric methane emissions.
