Waste to Worth travel scholarships available

December 18, 2012  by Press release

The planning committee for the first ever Livestock and Poultry Environmental Learning Center National Conference – Waste to Worth – is offering travel scholarships to the conference, being held April 2 to 5, 2013 in Denver, CO.

The target audience for the scholarships is county/regional agriculture professionals (extension, conservation district, agency or other staff, private consultants). We also encourage farmers to apply. Awardees should have experience/expertise in animal agriculture and environmental topics. Priority will be given to those who could not otherwise travel to the meeting without this source of funds.

The scholarship will cover registration and travel expenses toward the conference, not to exceed $1500. At least 10 will be awarded nationally. Recipients will travel to the Waste to Worth meeting and be reimbursed afterward.

Awardees will be expected to be an active participant at the conference (presenting or serving as a moderator, etc.) and to sign up as a member of the LPELC CoP in eXtension. The LPELC leadership team will work with awardees to identify roles or activities for continued involvement after the conference. The intended focus for these scholarships is to showcase innovative ways producers receive and put research-based information to work on their farm or ranch. For professionals the intended focus is to showcase examples where national tools or research information was put into local/regional/state context and delivered to the target audience successfully.
