Research and practices for
Pennsylvania’s animal agricultural operations and best protection of
air and water quality are the focus of a weekly lunch hour program,
Manure Du Jour.
February 2, 2009, University Park, Pa – Research and practices for Pennsylvania’s animal agricultural operations and best protection of air and water quality are the focus of a weekly lunch hour program, Manure Du Jour: Serving Pennsylvania’s Best Practices on Animal Ag, Water, and Air Quality, offered January 14 through April 16.
The webinar series features experts from Penn State’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Penn State Cooperative Extension, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission (SCC), USDA Agricultural Research Service, Michigan State University, and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Ombudsman program.
The sessions started January 14 and are open to producers, agencies, agribusinesses, consultants, and others. An online question and answer period will take place each week following the speaker presentations, enabling the participants to interact with the featured experts.
Sessions will cover:
- Feb. 5: Water quality – liquid manure storage and treatment.
- Feb. 12: Water quality – dry manure storage and treatment.
- Feb. 19: Water quality – land application.
- Feb. 26: Water quality – Stream protection.
- March 11: Air quality – the issues.
- March 18: Air quality – nutrition and ammonia emissions.
- March 25: Air quality – nutrition and greenhouse gas emissions.
- April 2: Air quality – housing and barnyard.
- April 9: Air quality – mitigation technologies.
- April 16: Air quality – manure storage and land application.

To access the webinar, participants will need a high-speed Internet connection and computer. Those who do not have access are encouraged to contact their County Extension office.
