Farm Bureau warns of manure runoff risk

Feb. 9. 2009 – With a prolonged period of warm weather accompanied by rain next week,
the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is urging livestock producers to
plan ahead and reduce the risk of manure runoff incidents as the snow
melts.

plan ahead and reduce the risk of manure runoff incidents as the snow
melts.

“While farmers cannot control Wisconsin’s weather, they
can control when and where they apply manure onto their fields,” said
Casey Langan, Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation spokesman. “By making
good management decisions, they can reduce the risk of manure runoff
events to protect their farms and water resources.”
