Ag in Brief: Deere strike settled, UGA breaks poultry ground

John Deere workers ratify contract

The high-profile strike of John Deere workers has officially come to an end following the ratification of a new six-year agreement. UAW John Deere members ratified the agreement by a vote of 61% yes to 39% no. The agreement includes an $8,500 signing bonus, a 20 per cent wage increase over the lifetime of the contract (with 10 per cent this year), return of Cost of Living adjustments, and three per cent lump sum payments, enhanced options for retirement and enhanced CIPP performance benefits. Healthcare remains the same for the life of the agreement.

UGA breaks ground on Poultry Science Complex

The University of Georgia broke ground this week on its new Poultry Science Complex in Athens. The complex is intended to be more technologically advanced and to increase capacity for instruction, research and collaboration. Construction will begin in spring 2022, and completion is set for fall 2023.
