Puget Sound Power makes first manure power purchase
Last week, Puget Sound Power bought its
first batch of electricity from Qualco Energy’s biomass digester,
culminating five years of work by Qualco, a nonprofit business made up
of local farmers, First Nations, and a salmon preservation group.
March 16, 2009, Seattle, Wa – Last week, Puget Sound Power bought its first batch of electricity from Qualco Energy’s biomass digester, culminating five years of work by Qualco, a nonprofit business made up of local farmers, First Nations, and a salmon preservation group.
Qualco receives $300,000 a year for providing enough electricity to power about 280 homes. The digester receives about 65,000 gallons of manure a day from area dairy farms.
