Connecticut farm preps for ground-breaking new digester system

Fort Hill Farms, a Connecticut-based, family-owned farm, is nearing completion of a new biogas dairy digester system. The system will recycle food waste and manure into renewable energy and soil projects. A new partnership between Fort Hill, Live Oak Bank, the Connecticut Green Bank and Ag-Grid Energy has allowed the project to go forward.
The digester will produce an estimated 550 kW (737.6 HP) of electricity annually. It will also reduce 25,000 tons of organic waste.
Benefits of the digester include enhanced sustainability, improved air quality, better manure management and additional income. Bryan Garcia, president and CEO of the Green Bank says the project can open doors for similar future projects, which is “a win for everyone.”
Fort Hill Farms has more than 400 cows, 230 milking and supplies products to both local markets and big box grocers.
