Lindsay Manufacturing Co has been awarded a US patent for an invention related to flow control for irrigation machines.
Lindsay Manufacturing’s invention enables Zimmatic Maxfield Custom corner systems to apply varying amounts of water by cycling sprinklers on and off in short time cycles. The technology is the first of its kind in the corner irrigation industry, according to the company, and is owned by Lindsay, a leading manufacturer of center pivot, corner, lateral move, and hose reel irrigation systems around the globe.
The computerized controlling device has the ability to “learn” the field size and shape, allowing for the creation of a custom water application program specifically for the field it is operating in. The technology enables variable water application from the corner system to ensure a uniform application of water as the area of responsibility of each cluster of sprinklers increases and decreases due to field size, shape, and varying machine speed. All of this equates to improved crop yields, quality and revenue for the farmers.
