Methane kills dog, injures man on B.C. farm
August 8, 2012 by The Canadian Press
August 8, 2012, Kelowna, BC – A Kelowna-area man is in hospital and his dog is dead following a bizarre accident on a farm northeast of the city.
Officials believe the man uncovered a pocket of methane gas while stirring up manure with a tractor and was overcome when he jumped down from his rig to help his stricken dog.
The man’s brother and mother — who were alerted by the victim before he left his tractor — also inhaled the fumes and were treated at hospital and released.
The mother of the 45-year-old man says he remains under care as doctors assess the harmful effects of the gas.
