WI county becoming “ground zero” for manure debate

July 29, 2015, Howard, WI – At a recent public hearing, about 17 people spoke out against a Kewaunee County dairy’s plan to expand from 450 to 900 milking cows.
The farm’s expansion plans have thrust the family operation into an intensifying fight over the environmental impact of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). And with two federal agencies and at least six state and national environmental advocacy groups targeting Kewaunee County, the area is quickly become a sort of “ground zero” for nationwide debate over large-scale farming.
