Abbotsford, BC – Anna Townrow still shivers every time she sees a fly. In July,
a strip mall on the edge of the Sumas Prairie in Abbotsford, B.C., was invaded
by houseflies in a scene straight out of a horror movie.
The midsummer fly
infestation, which lasted about two weeks, began in a chicken barn a few
kilometers from the strip mall. Scientists from the B.C. Ministry of
Agriculture were quick to calm disgruntled store owners, convincing them it was
a “one-time” incident.
