Weltec selected for anaerobic wastewater project

March 1, 2021  by  Bree Rody

German biogas plant manufacturer Weltec Biopower has been selected to develop a municipal sewage treatment plant in Bückeburg, North Germany. Elements constructed will include a new sludge thickener, engine room and a digester with a gas storage roof. As a result, the sludge will undergo anaerobic digestion. The anaerobic stage will go live in October 2021, according to the company.

The current strategy for the plant has been aerobic wastewater treatment. The new anaerobic process will, according to Weltec, deliver higher energy efficiency and reduce GHG emissions by 664 tonnes per year. It will also result in cost reductions due to lower amounts of accumulated sludge.

The budget for the project totals €4.14 million.
