WA lawmaker proposes new safety rules for dairies

January 21, 2016, Olympia, WA — A Seattle Democrat recently introduced a bill requiring dairy workers to undergo safety training and for dairies to adopt new safety measures, such as fencing and lighting manure lagoons.

House Bill 2484 comes nearly a year after a farmworker was found dead in a front-end loader submerged in a state manure lagoon. The WA Department of Labor and Industries fined the dairy $2,200 for failing to recognize potential hazards. READ MORE
