USDA NRCS offers AD funding for NY farmers

March 23, 2012 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture recently announced that up to $1 million is available to help farmers in New York install an anaerobic digester as part of their manure management system.

Funding is provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service’s (NRCS) Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) and is available to farms ready to build a digester within the next year. Farms may apply for assistance by signing up at their local USDA Service Center. However, farms wishing to participate need to have a feasibility study before signing up and should visit EQIP’s eligibility web page to ensure they qualify for EQIP funding.

NRCS will provide up to 75 percent of the costs to the maximum EQIP funding level. Funding can be combined with Rural Development’s Rural Energy for America Program and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) programs as a package of incentives.

The deadline to apply for funding is April 20, 2012. Once an application is received NRCS will make a ranking determination and notify awardees by April 27, 2012.
