UK AD firm Biogen fined for polluting stream
May 14, 2012 by GreenWise Business
May 14, 2012 – Anaerobic digestion (AD) company Biogen has been fined £5,000 (about $8,000 US) for polluting a stretch of a stream in the UK.
Bedford Magistrates’ Court found Biogen guilty of breaching its environmental permit at its Clapham Biogas Plant in November 2010, when liquid digestate from one of its underground tanks was allowed to enter a tributary of the Ravensden Brook.
The incident happened when a pump on an anaerobic digester was left on overnight leading to a “large quantity” of digestate to overflow into a nearby field, the Environment Agency said. The regulator was not notified of the incident until late the following afternoon. READ MORE
