Strict biosecurity protocols required for PEDV

April 29, 2014, Independence, MN — Controlling Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus requires diligent attention to biosecurity, said Mark Storlie, Iowa State University Extension swine field specialist.
PEDV transfers via feces and survives in manure for an extended time, Storlie said during an informational meeting in Independence. During an outbreak, affected animals shed a large amount of the virus into the environment. Contamination of trucks, equipment, clothing and footwear can spread the virus. READ MORE
