Pennsylvania dairy farmers who were negatively impacted by COVID-19 are urged to apply for relief funding. According to Russell Redding, Pennsylvania’s secretary of agriculture, nearly $13.5 million of the $15 million CARES Act-funded Dairy Indemnity Program (DIP) is still available for farmers to claim in direct relief payments.

Early issues with the supply chain and shifting demand for dairy forced many farmers to dump milk. The mental and emotional toll of the pandemic for dairy farmers forced to dump milk and handle additional regulations was compounded by serious financial ramifications.

Each farm with a documented loss will receive a minimum of $1,500 and can apply for an additional prorated share of the remaining funds. The deadline to apply for DIP is Sept. 30, 2020. |READ MORE
