Recycle sand in small herds?

March 27, 2015 – In a recent University of Wisconsin-Madison survey of Upper Midwest dairy herds with more than 200 cows, two-thirds used deep sand bedding.

These herds produced an extra seven pounds more of energy-corrected milk per cow per day than herds using mat or mattress stall surfaces. There remains little argument regarding the benefits of sand to the cow, but the issue that is raised always relates to the handling of sand-laden manure. READ MORE
