Other sources may be at fault in IL fish kill

Bellflower, IL – Officials have pulled back on speculation that a Central
Illinois dairy farm was solely responsible for a recent fish kill, saying the
case is still under investigation and that multiple sources could be to blame.

Earlier, the Illinois
Environmental Protection Agency
said manure runoff from Stone Ridge Dairy, the
state’s largest dairy, was the likely culprit in the contamination of Lone Tree
Creek and the Sangamon River. But recently Bruce Yurdin, manager of statewide
field operations for IEPA’s Bureau of Water, said further investigation has
found other potential sources, and that many sources could share the blame.
