Opportunity abounds for manure digesters

WI – The United States holds the potential for 3,000 to 4,000 manure digesters,
many of which could be located on dairy farms, Chris Voell, program manager
with AgStar, EPA Climate Change Division, told audience members at World Dairy
Expo recently.

Currently there are 150
manure digesters operating on farms across the United States, 50 percent of
which operate in four states. Based on the AgStar Market Opportunities Report
the total electricity generating potential of manure digesters in the United
States is approximately 13,144,441 megawatt hours per year.
