Ontario increases broadband access in multiple regions

The governments of Canada and Ontario are currently working together to increase broadband internet access for farmers and other families across the province. Recent enhancements have been made in various regions across the province, particularly in Southwestern Ontario.

Through a partnership with Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology (SWIFT) Inc., the governments have completed construction on infrastructure in the following regions:

  • Waterloo Region – $429,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting 470 families, farms and businesses in the Township of Woolwich and the community of Haysville; $430,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting 250 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Orr’s Lake and Clyde;
  • Lambton and Middlesex counties – $741,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 1,000 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Ravenswood, Gustin Grove, Cedar Point, Glendale Beach, Hillsborough Beach and Highland Glen; $575,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 290 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Thedford, Springvale and Jura; $450,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 170 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Kerwood, Strathroy and Napperton and more than 100 families in the community of Ballymote (December 2022);
  • Perth County – $219,500 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 110 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Slabtown, Bornholm and Willow Grove; $613,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 270 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Britton and Tralee (December 2022);
  • Elgin County – $616,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 740 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Tyrconnell, Duttona Beach, New Glasgow, Port Glasgow and Churchville; $1.1 million from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting 390 families, farms and businesses in the communities of Iona, Iona Station, Lawrence Station and Southwold (December 2022); and
  • Bruce County – $429,000 from each level of government committed to internet infrastructure supporting more than 300 families, farms and businesses on the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation.
