Ohio dairy farm looking to double in size

Van Wert County dairy farm is looking to expand capacity to more than twice its
current level. Blue Stream Dairy has requested a permit to install and operate
the farm with a capacity of 1,250 dairy cows. The dairy currently houses 650
dairy cows in two freestall barns. Under state law, the farm is allowed up to
699 dairy cows without requiring an Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA)
permit.

If granted, the permit to
install would include the addition of a freestall barn housing 525 cows. An
existing building capable of housing up to 200 maternity and special needs
cows, would allow the dairy to stock 1,250 dairy cows.
