Rainfall, water leaks, evaporation, barn management practices can all alter the nitrogen content of manure.
Rainfall, water leaks, evaporation, barn management practices can all alter the nitrogen content of manure. The Nova meter is used by custom manure pumpers and farmers to quickly test manure for plant-available nitrogen in wet or dry manure.
The meter provides results in minutes and is used while pumping manure to the field since a proper representative sample of manure can only be taken while agitating and pumping the pit or lagoon. A sample of the manure can also be sent to a lab to verify the results. The field application rate can be adjusted to the test results.
The Nova meter provides a quick test for farmers to increase production efficiency by reducing fertilizer input costs. It also can be used to avoid over-application of manure nitrogen and resulting potential nitrate pollution.
