New IN CAFO rules require operational changes
Indiana’s new regulations aimed at keeping confined animal feeding operations environmentally friendly will require producers to change record-keeping and manure management practices, effective July 1.

EPA CAFO meeting being held in Nebraska
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 representatives are hosting a July 2 public information meeting for livestock producers about the EPA’s inspection program for concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). The event will take place in Lexington, NE.

Computerized manure apps, nutrient calculations
After the manure is spread, the job still isn’t done till there is a paper trail. For some time, there has been a free computer software manure planning tool available through Purdue University. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has recently funded an upgrade that now allows Michigan farmers and nutrient management plan providers to print off the data in a greater variety of tables.

Manure runoff in MI results in minor fish kill
Neighbors of a Meade Township dairy farm say they are extremely concerned after finding manure runoff from a farm field had made its way into a ditch and then into a nearby county drain resulting in the killing of fish.
