Aug. 8, 201, Guelph, Ont. – The latest and greatest in manure equipment is not only on display at the 2013 North American Manure Expo – being held Aug. 20 and 21, 2013 – it can also be seen in action.

More than 15 different manure equipment manufacturers and dealers will be pumping, agitating, injecting and spreading over the two-day event, showcasing the newest manure management and application technologies available.

The afternoon of Aug. 20, pit agitation takes centre stage. During two tour stops, participants will have an opportunity to watch different brands of manure agitators and pumps at work handling either straw or sand bedding combined with dairy manure. Manufacturers and dealers will be on hand to explain their technologies and answer any questions.

On Aug. 21, the information really starts to fly with solid manure application technologies being showcased on the expo grounds in the morning starting at 10:15 a.m., and liquid injection, draghose and other technologies demonstrated in the afternoon starting at 2:15 p.m. Manufacturers and dealers will have an opportunity to describe their machines before they show their stuff. Once the demonstrations are completed, attendees are welcome to kick tires and examine spread patterns.

Composting demonstrations will also be held on the expo grounds and Trees Ontario will be demonstrating the value of windbreaks for enhancing farm operations at the same time. Both demos get underway at 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 21.

Researchers from Penn State University will be demonstrating the dangers of manure and silo gas plus the safety precautions required to work in enclosed spaces starting at 3:45 p.m. They will be utilizing a special trailer designed to explain the risks of the invisible gases.

To close out the expo, a manure spill clean-up and safety demonstration is being held starting at 4:20 p.m. Attendees can watch a contingency plan put in action to demonstrate protection of water courses, groundwater and other sensitive areas.

Don’t miss the North American Manure Expo, being hosted north of the U.S. border for the first time ever at the University of Guelph’s Arkell Research Station, minutes from Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
