New ruling made in nutrient plan battle

Hill, MD – A Worcester Circuit Court judge has ruled the Maryland Department of
Agriculture must black out any information that could identify a farmer in
nutrient management plan documents about farms released to the public.

nutrient management plan documents about farms released to the public.

The matter was similar to
one previously heard in Anne Arundel County in which Circuit Court Judge
William C. Mulford II had ruled on a Public Information Act request filed by
environmental groups to have the Department of Agriculture release nutrient
management plans. The state’s agriculture officials have yet to fulfill that
request and want to charge the groups about $73,000 for the documents,
according to court filings.
