Ontario farmers, agronomists, students, and agri-retailers can now take a region-specific course on utilizing 4R Nutrient Stewardship best management practices on provincial soils.

“Fertilizer Canada is committed to providing training materials to ensure those using 4Rs have the most up-to-date information for applying ‘the right source at right rate, right time, right place’ under Ontario conditions,” said Garth Whyte, president & CEO of Fertilizer Canada. “The principles underpinning 4R Nutrient Stewardship can be applied in any geographical location and farming system, and encompass highly effective fertilizer best management practices that help farmers feed our growing population and replenish nutrients in the soil.”

Fertilizer Canada – in partnership with the Ontario Agri Business Association, Grain Farmers of Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and the Christian Farmers Federation of Ontario – promotes the sustainable use of nutrients for the benefit of producers and society. 4R Nutrient Stewardship training courses encompass the regional and science-based knowledge needed to optimize nutrient use efficiency and economic return on the farm.

The sustainable use of fertilizer products is a top priority for Fertilizer Canada, as is providing several training resources in the form of videos and online eLearning courses for various audiences from farmers to first responders. Those wishing to obtain a certificate of completion must complete the exam at the end of the training modules. Certified Crop Advisors (CCAs) can also receive two Continuing Education Units (CEUs) in Nutrient Management from completion of the 4R Nutrient Stewardship in Ontario course exam.
