New members for Manitoba manure organization

Officials with the Manitoba Livestock Manure Management Initiative (MLMMI) have appointed two new members to the organization.

Officials with the Manitoba Livestock Manure Management Initiative (MLMMI) have appointed two new members to the organization.

Michael Sykes, a recently retired agricultural extension person with Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives (MAFRI), is chair of MLMMI, replacing Dr. Ed Tyrchniewicz. Sykes, a graduate of the University of Manitoba. He has worked 27 years with MAFRI, most recently serving as a business development specialist in Selkirk. He helped launch the province’s Grazing School and was associated with Manitoba’s BSE Task Force and Living with Livestock education events.

Brandy Street, a native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, is the new executive director of MLMMI. She has a background in animal research, most recently with the Prairie Swine Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She has a Master’s degree in animal behavior from the University of Saskatchewan.

The MLMMI is a joint government and livestock industry organization that supports research into new ways of controlling odor and environmental concerns connected to livestock production.
