October 9, 2008, Siloam Springs, Ark. – The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expected to release new rules for confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in October or November.

According to a report in Northwest Arkansas’ Morning News, the proposed rules were announced at a water quality conference at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.

The new regulations will outline permit requirements for CAFOs – including possible federal standards for disposal of manure and poultry litter – but permits will still be issued by the state, explained an official with the EPA.
