Missouri seeks comment on proposed CAFO changes

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking input on
proposed changes to the rules covering concentrated animal feeding
operations (CAFOs).

August 5, 2008, Kansas City, MO – The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking input on proposed changes to the rules covering concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs).

missouridnrThe changes, which would incorporate federal rule changes into state regulations, would modify requirements for setbacks for land application, requirements for nutrient management plans, lower the animal threshold number for swine weighing less than 55 pounds from 15,000 to 10,000 (Class 1C operations) and expand the inspection, record keeping and annual reporting requirements.

The Missouri Clean Water Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed changes at its September 7 meeting, which starts at 9 a.m. at the Q Hotel and Spa, 560 Westport Road, Kansas City.

The public has until September 17 to submit written comments on the proposed rule changes. They can be sent to:
