Methane fires, explosions in livestock facilities

June 5, 2012 – Methane fires and explosions are growing issues for rural firefighters with livestock confinement facilities in their response area.

The fires and explosions can occur when a thick foam forms on the surface of the manure in holding pits below the facility.
