Manure concerns spur environmental lawsuit

August 7, 2013, Little Rock, AR – A coalition of citizens groups is challenging $3.4 million in federal loan guarantees for a 6,500-pig factory farm, arguing that the government underestimated the consequences of manure draining and other potential environmental damage.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency and the U.S. Small Business Administration botched their environmental reviews of the proposed C&H Hog Farms facility by ignoring the draining risk posed by the region’s porous geology, according to a complaint filed in Arkansas federal court.
