CETCO Lining Technologies
Akwaseal from CETCO Lining Technologies is made with two water barriers: bentonite clay and a flexible plastic membrane. The bentonite clay is sandwiched between two textiles which are needle punched together. The membrane is permanently laminated to the outer textile surface. The result is said to be an easy-to-install, self-healing liner requiring little maintenance and offering long-term durability. The swelling properties of the bentonite clay and cushioning of the textiles eliminate the need for seam welding and underlayments.
Akwaseal is an ideal liner system for agricultural waste lagoons, says the company. The liner meets government regulations and eliminates potential liner flotation due to gas build-up. This liner system is suitable for many types of liquid containment projects and is a low permeability product that won’t shrink, crack, float, or balloon.
The Compost Cover and Roll-up Machine from Curry Industries seals off ammonia and nauseous gases from the environment. The cover can be rolled on and off easily with the fully automated system. It bows up with a flexible arch for shedding condensation, and is held on with the original patented Poly-Fastener System.
The compost cover allows farm operators to eliminate bulky frames and covers on reactor pits. It is said to save on manpower and handling costs, and it can be used indoors or outdoors.
The cover speeds up composting with improved reactor temperature control. Its design features a spool for deploying the cover with a snap-on rail clip, which automatically fastens the cover on both sides, creating a seal on top of the reactor pit.
The Compost Cover and Roll-up Machine can be designed for reactor pits from 10’ to 20’ wide by 100’ to 600’ long.
GTI Agricultural Cover Systems
Geomembrane Technologies Inc’s floating agricultural cover system is an economical, yet functional cover package for farms with existing manure holding tanks and lagoons. The primary purpose of the cover system is to reduce manure handling costs and improve the fertilizer value of the tank’s contents. The cover system can also capture odorous gases for use as an energy source and reduce greenhouse gases produced in manure tanks.
This new technology, available exclusively from GTI, provides the following advantages to farmers:
• Tank capacity increases 25 percent by eliminating rainwater.
• Reduction in the volume of manure to be mixed and spread on land.
• Improved manure quality: captures more ammonia resulting in higher nitrogen content, eliminating the addition of expensive chemical nitrogen.
• Accumulation of greenhouse gas credits due to reduced emissions.
• Total elimination of odors, flies and insects from the manure tank.
Octaform Systems Inc, an innovative technology company, has produced a stay-in-place, concrete-forming system that makes concrete walls stronger and offers more construction versatility for many of today’s demanding applications.
With Octaform tanks, farmers are able to protect the environment and water quality through better storage, containment or processing.
• Stored liquids stay contained in the tank, there is no seepage to the ground water.
• Octaform profiles are designed to produce a watertight wall when assembled and properly filled with vibrated concrete.
• Octaform has never had a tank or other structure decommissioned.
• PVC protects concrete and rebar from most chemicals.
• CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) certification, which makes it ideal for livestock, food storage and
• Octaform buildings meet the needs and the sanitary conditions which are essential for today’s demands.
• The concrete between the PVC panels provides excellent thermal mass, which delivers optimal temperature control with minimum fluctuation.
• Solid, long-life dependability and low maintenance, tanks offer excellent sustainable containment compared to conventional construction.
Octaform’s versatility extends to all types of industrial construction, offering numerous benefits for building any structure. Smooth, flat, bacteria resistant walls make cleaning effortless. Octaform is also rodent and insect safe.
P2 Concrete Forming
P2Forms is a system of economical, fully interlocking, stay-in-place, PVC elements that allow a contractor to form and pour a monolithic concrete wall.
The permanent forms are never removed, eliminating additional labor, storage, transportation and repair costs associated with temporary forms. The use of permanent PVC concrete forms is especially beneficial when the customer or specification requires a finished, non-porous surface free of vertical water stopping and form tie holes, but requires the ability for easy site inspection.
The system is said to be ideally suited for manure storage or processing system applications because of the ability to provide a watertight, pathogen resistant surface that economically protects the rebar support structure.
P2 Concrete Forming Systems (P2CFS) provides a full array of design and field technical support services in conjunction with product delivery. P2CFS also has an alliance with a national environmental engineering firm and has recently received a new “waterstop” technical approval for North America.
P2Forms are exclusively manufactured, cut to length, punched and labeled specifically for each project, thereby eliminating field fabrication and allowing the contractor to erect the structure according to the simple plan.
Layfield Plastics Incorporated
Layfield/CW Neal is an industry leader in the design, fabrication and installation of floating cover systems and lagoon liners used in the agricultural industry.
Geosynthetic floating covers are increasingly being specified and used in the agricultural industry to address growing environmental issues typically associated with intensive livestock operations. As rural regions become more populated, the environmental issues surrounding livestock odor, emissions and the mounting concerns with groundwater contamination have become much more prevalent in the public view.
Geosynthetic floating covers and geomembranes (lagoon liners) are increasingly being used in anaerobic lagoons by livestock producers to control gas emissions, reduce odor and protect groundwater. In an anaerobic lagoon, floating covers are used to create an impervious physical barrier between the liquid manure and the air. This impervious barrier is designed to restrict the biogases from leaving the liquid manure. The covers help to control and vent the chemical compounds in the organic gas including hydrogen sulfide and ammonia that can cause offensive odors.

GSE Lining Technology
GSE has been manufacturing high-quality geosynthetic materials for over 20 years. The company’s full product line ranges from GSE HDPE and LLDPE geomembranes, both smooth and textured, to Bentofix GCLs, GSE HyperNet, GSE FabriNet, GSE non-woven geotextiles and many ancillary and specialty accessories that may be specific to a particular application.
Increased environmental awareness coupled with the increased size of many livestock farms has led many companies to seek more environmentally friendly alternatives of treating and releasing animal waste products. Geomembranes are not the only geosynthetic that can be utilized in animal waste containment. GSE’s non-woven geotextiles can be used to provide protection to the geomembrane by cushioning against uneven subgrade, and GSE’s HyperNet can be utilized for ultimate protection as part of a leak detection system in a double-lined pond.
By successfully blending highly trained personnel with high-tech facilities, In-Line Plastics has met the challenge of delivering strong, reliable and cost-effective solutions for a large spectrum of environmental applications.
The company’s factory is capable of producing large prefabricated geomembrane panels to most specifications. Larger projects are installed onsite as per engineering plan and specifications.
In-Line Plastics’ Herculiner geomembrane is designed for use in a variety of applications, including agriculture. It can be prefabricated into large panels for self-installation or installed onsite, Herculiner is manufactured using specially formulated resins specifically designed for geomembrane production. Geomembranes are co-extruded and Mon-Layer, 6 mil – 100 mil, and smooth or textured. Only premium HDPE and LLDPE resins are used. This ensures excellent resistance to punctures, tears, environment stress cracks, ultraviolet radiation and chemicals.
The Zeomat floating, permeable, odor-adsorbing cover system from Huesker is designed to act as a multi-level bioreactor (digester). This system allows for both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria dispersion within the foam portion and gas adsorption/ion exchange within the composite geotextile/zeolite portion, thus eliminating the malodors associated with agricultural and industrial waste lagoons.
The bottom layer of the system contains a closed cell, highly permeable, polypropylene (or polyethylene) foam that has a density of 2.1 lbs/ft3 and a minimum thickness of 3/4” (20mm). This foam, due to being closed cell, resists water absorption and maintains its buoyancy. The lower portion of the foam is submerged within the liquid waste and forms a zone that promotes anaerobic bacteria activity while the upper portion of the foam is within the atmosphere and forms a zone that promotes aerobic bacteria activity.
The top layer of the system incorporates a special composite, non-woven polyester geotextile that is designed to contain a thin layer of zeolite (odor adsorbing mineral). This top layer is mechanically bonded to the foam layer
so that the system maintains its pervious structure and durability.
The composite non-woven geotextile is designed to contain the zeolite granules on this layer and resist being blown away by wind. Polyester fibers are used to produce the non-woven because of their high resistance to UV degradation and chemical attack.
The zeolite mineral acts as a molecular sieve and adsorbs the ammonia and hydrogen sulfide gases that escape the bacteria zone.
Because zeolite has a very high cation exchange capacity, the trapped gases are transformed into non-odor chemicals such as nitrogen and water.
