JBS-Swift opening biogas plant in Nebraska

January 21, 2009 – Meat packer JBS-Swift recently announced it is
opening a biogas generation plant adjacent to its beef packing plant
near Grand Island, Neb.

January 21, 2009 – Meat packer JBS-Swift recently announced it is opening a biogas generation plant adjacent to its beef packing plant near Grand Island, Neb.

The operation is expected to generate about 235,000 MM btu of power each year. It will be owned and managed by Microgy Inc.

The facility will consist of two 1.2 million gallon digesters where the manure will be processed into methane. The gas will then be purified before being used as fuel for energy production.
