Iowa man dies in manure tanker

November 19, 2013, Rembrandt, IA – Attempts to rescue a man trapped in a manure spreader tank were unsuccessful after the 36-year-old died from fumes in the tank before rescuers could free him.

Police responded to a call reporting that a man had fallen into a tank and passed out due to the fumes. Deputies arriving on the scene found the man had climbed into a 7,300-gallon holding tank on a manure spreader. The machine had apparently clogged up and malfunctioned, and he had tried to clear it.
