Iowa DNR issues fines for manure spills, uncertified application

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has issued three manure-related fines according to its latest report published March 23.

In Cerro Gorda County, Precision Manure Application, Inc. was ordered to pay a $5,000 administrative penalty and to comply to the consent order “ensure all employees are properly certified to handle, transport and apply manure.”

In Dallas County, Dallas Pork and Gift Pork were ordered to “develop and submit a standard operating procedure for the land application of manure and implement upon approval; comply with manure spill notification requirements” and to pay a $3,500 administrative penalty.

In Warren County, Sutter Finisher was also ordered to “develop and submit a standard operating procedure for the land application of manure and implement upon arrival” and to “ensure that manure is land applied by a certified manure applicator” and to pay a $4,500 administrative penalty.

In Clinton County, an individual was ordered to cease the illegal disposal and burning of solid waste and comply with applicable laws in the future, and pay a $4,500 administrative penalty.
