December 22, 2014, Springfield, IL — A proposal aimed at reducing the amount of phosphorus and nitrate-nitrogen reaching Illinois waters by 45 percent is open for public comment until Jan. 24, 2015.
The highly anticipated Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy describes a comprehensive suite of best management practices that will help the state reduce its phosphorus load by 25 percent and its nitrate-nitrogen load by 15 percent by 2025 and to eventually reach the 45 percent target.
