IL ag department sends letter about hog facility plan

September 2, 2014, Wenona, IL — How will a huge volume of manure be handled, and what will be done to prevent or repair damage to local roads by heavy trucks traveling to and from a proposed hog confinement facility outside this eastern Marshall County community?
Those are two of the unanswered questions lingering over plans for the 20,000-head farrowing operation being proposed by an Iowa developer for a site about 3.5 miles northwest of Wenona.
The plan, which has sparked opposition from the County Board as well as area residents, must receive site approval from the Illinois Department of Agriculture, and that agency recently sent a third letter requesting more information from VMC Management Corp. in Williamsburg, Iowa. READ MORE
