August 12, 2013  by Press release

August 12, 2013, Boise, ID – The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has extended the public comment period on its draft guidance on operation of composting facilities.

Interested parties now have until 5 p.m. MDT, September 9, 2013, to submit written comments on the draft Processing (Composting) Facility Guidance and Checklists.

The purpose of the guidance is to assist compost facility owners, facility operators, and the general public in understanding regulatory requirements that apply to composting facilities in Idaho.

Due to the variety of feedstock used in composting, different local, state, and federal regulations may apply to various operations. The draft guidance addresses applicable state regulations based on the facility classification, odor management, and methods of testing and sampling to determine safety and quality of finished compost.
