IA hog producer improves manure control

August 9, 2012 – Following a heavy rainstorm in July 2011, manure run-off from Wayne and Joan Demmer’s farm in Epworth, IA, caused a fish kill in Catfish Creek, according to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
Over the years, the Demmers have spent more than $100,000 to control manure run off and while a normal rain of an inch and a half is no concern, the more than 12-inch rainfall in July 2011 was more than the facility could handle. READ MORE
