IA beef feedlot manure field day set for March 24

March 17, 2014, Benton County, IA – Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting a beef feedlot manure management field day on March 24, from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the Earnie Anniss farm south of Dysart, Iowa.

The purpose of this field day is to demonstrate dry manure spreader calibration, manure management, and nutrient application for optimum crop utilization.

Angie Rieck-Hinz, Greg Brenneman, Dan Huyser, and Denise Schwab, ISU Extension specialists, will demonstrate the spreader calibration procedures, briefly review manure management regulations for dry manure, and stockpiling regulations. They will also teach participants how to read manure analysis and put a dollar value on manure nutrients to improve nutrient management for crop production.

The Anniss farm is located at 2176 X Ave, Dysart, IA. Go 1.5 miles south of Dysart on Hwy 21, turn west on 210th St one mile, turn south on X Ave, ¾ mile. The farm site is on the west side of the road. The program will begin in the machine shed before moving to the field.
