Hog barn safety includes weekly manure pit checks

September 16, 2013 – As National Farm Safety and Health Week gets underway this week (Sept. 15-21), the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) and its 2013 theme, “Working Together for Safety in Agriculture,” is intended to bring awareness to the agricultural sector, the most dangerous profession in the U.S., according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In 2010, 476 farmers and farm workers died from work-related injuries, according to the latest data released by the CDC. Every day, about 243 agricultural workers suffer a lost-work-time injury, with 5 percent resulting in permanent injury. READ MORE
