Freezing pipes in MN spill 60,000 gallons of manure
March 20, 2014 by Winona Daily News
March 20, 2014, Winona County, MN – Two large manure spills have happened on Winona County farms this winter due to freezing temperatures, according to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
The most recent involved 2,000 to 8,000 gallons of manure on a 1000 cow dairy farm near Rollingstone, Minn. The spill happened when frozen pipes connecting the barn to the farm’s separation system burst, spilling manure across the farm and onto a water retention pond.
A 10,000 to 50,000 gallon manure spill also occurred near Rollingstone in mid-December at a 524-cow dairy. READ MORE
