May 22, 2009 – The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will soon be launching a feedlot re-registration effort to prepare for the January 1, 2010 deadline.

The deadline is set in registration rules according to a repeating four-year cycle.

Owners who haven’t updated their registration since January 1, 2006, based on MPCA records, will be sent a re-registration form from the agency or delegated county. The form should arrive by October 1, 2009 and take about five minutes to fill out.

Owners are asked to verify existing operations and geographic information and to make any updates on the type and number of animals being maintained at the site. The MPCA uses the information to develop inspections strategies based on feedlot size and proximity to sensitive areas.

About half of the Minnesota’s estimated 25,000 feedlots have already re-registered.
