Environmental advocates cry foul on using chicken litter for renewable energy in MD

November 26, 2015, Havre de Grace, MD – Environmental advocates made a public push in Harford County recently for local and state officials to remove chicken waste incineration from Maryland’s approved slate of renewable and clean energy sources.
Incinerating chicken manure to produce energy should not be considered a renewable resource, according to Elena Cuadros, a Harford County field organizer for the nonprofit Food & Water Watch and one of a dozen people who gathered in the gazebo in Tydings Park, with the nearby Chesapeake Bay behind them.
